Welcome!
I’m Roger Backes and I’m a Life Coach. OK, maybe you’re thinking, “Coaching is all about crystals and tarot cards, and that’s just not up my alley.” Well, that’s not up my alley either. I’m what you might call the consummate pragmatist, the skeptic when it comes to ethereal matters—anything that is intangible. My interest is in finding out what is happening in the lives of those around me, how they are responding to pitfalls and how they are closing in on their goals; how one person found a way to resolve a dispute with a neighbor, and how another discovered a workmate was not entirely wrong in taking him to task. It’s all part of a discovery of new directions, finding the solutions we didn’t know we had, that were sitting there the whole time, waiting to be harvested. It’s all part of a journey that all of us are on, and by working together our journeys can become more productive.

Some would say that Roger Backes is among the top vocational rehabilitation counselors, one of the best conflict resolution counselors, or among the best marriage counselors in the Madison area—roles he’s fully qualified to perform—but Roger would argue that as a coach, his job is not to give the advice an outsider would deem appropriate for your situation. Rather, he sees his job as one of coaching you to find a resolution that you know will work for you, based on your life experience.
